GAME 1 –
An excellent game in difficult conditions, the pitch in places being very boggy. Despite this we put together some great passing moves, although we didn’t really threaten sufficiently in the danger areas.
MOM was Harrison Carney with a superb display in defence of tackling and passing, ably matched by fellow defender Thomas Morley.
Chances were limited but our midfield of CC, Dec and Macca did their best to cause the Mapplewell defence problems and at times our inter-passing was excellent especially given the sticky conditions under foot. So although Chloe’s chances of opening the scoring were restricted to a couple of, at best, half chances she did well to make space for herself and cause the opposition problems.
The home team by contrast capitalised on a rare opportunity by slotting home to go into the second half with a lead of 1 to nil. No fault for this to either our defence or keeper (who made one save of the Season), it was just a well-worked goal finished off with a well-placed shot.
Again excellent interplay by Stanley saw the home teams goal come under increasing threat, second half sub Owen Felkin put one shot just wide and saw another spilled by the keeper unfortunately with no one following up for the tap in we missed the opportunity for an equaliser. Joe Lawson another second half substitute showed his great pace, rounding defenders on several occasions and holding the ball up well when called upon to do so.
Thomo was also needed to make a couple more fine saves as we pushed on looking for an equaliser. Unfortunately time ran out for us, and we ended the game by losing 1 to nil. An entertaining game that on another day we may easily have came away winning.
